Publishing Ethics

- update at: 26 Jan 2024

Publishing ethics are made to ensure the credibility and reliability of academic research, which can also ensure the quality and reputation of journals, and enhance readers' trust and respect for academic research. At the same time, journal publishing ethics are also an important guarantee for maintaining fairness, transparency, and credibility in the entire academic community.

GATE Press follows COPE's Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, and follows the recommendations and policies related to research and Publishing ethics developed by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to handle complaints and appeals, post-publication discussions and corrections, as well as its policies on data sharing and reproducibility, ethical oversight, intellectual property, etc.

The editor team in GATE Press works hard to prevent any academic misconducts and ethical violations in research and publication, and any misconduct takes all necessary actions according to the COPE guidelines. We are committed to high standards for professional conduct and ethical behavior in all published material. The misconducts include (but are not limited to):

-Plagiarism

-Falsification of research, data fabrication

-Affiliation misrepresentation

-Submit to multiple journals simultaneously or submitting manuscripts of others as one’s own

-Breaches in copyright/use of third-party material without permissions

-Undisclosed competing interests

-Unethical research

- Violations of intellectual property rights

We will use plagiarism software iThenticate to check the duplication of submissions. A research paper should not contain 20% or more of plagiarized content or 2% or more of plagiarism from the same reference. Otherwise, it will be declined or rejected for consideration.

The editor team will be responsible for investigation of suspected misconduct and violation. If the suspected submission is supported by evidence, it will be declined in the journal and all authors will be informed on this matter. In case of already published paper, un-publication will be initiated immediately. Authors of the paper will receive Editor’s Decision via email and all complaints and appeals need to be made within 1 month of the decision date. GATE Press is committed to upholding the academic integrity and publishes Errata, Expressions of Concerns or Retraction Notices dependent on the situation and in accordance with the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

If an author disagrees with the decision made by the journal's editor, they have the option to submit an appeal for reconsideration. It is important for authors to clearly and concisely state their viewpoints and requests, providing appropriate evidence to support their arguments. The appeal should include the following: specific rebuttal to the editor's decision; Request for reconsideration; reasonable suggestions. All complaints will be taken seriously by our publisher and journal, and we will respond to the complainant in a timely manner and inform the progress of the complaint.
